Why Jussie Smollett Sentenced to 150 days in Jail Check Charges & Fine

Empire fame actor, Jussie Smollett, is sentenced to five months in jail. As per reports, the actor was sentenced to 150 days in prison on Thursday, March 10, 2022, following a hate crime in which he lied to police about a homophobic and racist attack that he orchestrated himself. Apart from getting imprisonment, the actor was also fined USD 120,000 to the city of Chicago along with a USD 25,000 fine. James Linn stated that the actor has turned his life upside down by his misconduct and shenanigans. The judge added that he has destroyed his life as everyone knows it. It was further added that Jussie wanted to get the attention and he was so invested in issues of social justice. Cook County judge said, “you knew this was a sore spot for everybody in this country. You were throwing a national pity party for yourself.”

It is coming forward that Smollett did not say anything when offered the opportunity and maintained that he was not guilty after the Cook County Judge issued his sentencing decision. Later, the actor insisted that he was not suicidal and that he did not do this. Jussie said that if anything happens to him when goes in there, he did not do it to himself. Smollett further said that if he did this, then it means that he stuck his fist in the fears of Black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBT community.

As the actor was being taken away from the courtroom, the actor shouted again saying “I am innocent”. The 39-year-old actor and singer added that if he was guilty, he would have said earlier. Let us add that his dramatic reaction capped an hours-long sentencing hearing. When the actor was getting sentenced, his family members shouted not to send him to prison.

Jussie’s grandmother, Molly Smollett, asked the court to send her along with him. Smollett’s attorneys tried defending the actor in front of the judge as they read aloud letters from other supporters that included an organizer with Black Lives Matter. Many of the actor’s fans also showed their concern saying his life would be at risk in prison, mentioning his sexual orientation, his race, and his family’s Jewish heritage.
