The popular American rapper Snoop Dogg has bought Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group, a Blackstone-controlled company. A press release has stated that the rapper will lead the said brand as its owner for the upcoming years. Expressing his emotions after becoming the owner of the records, Snoop said that he is thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the culturally significant brand having untapped future value. Snoop Dogg shared his feelings after acquiring the record and said that it feels good to have ownership of the label as he was a part of it at the beginning of his career as one of the founding members. The rapper added that this is an extremely meaningful moment for him and he would like to personally thank the teams at MNRK, Blackstone and especially David Kestenbaum who worked with him for several months to make this exciting homecoming a reality.

Snoop Dogg further said that he is looking forward to building the next chapter of Death Row Records. In 1993, the American rapper had joined the brand when he released his debut album titled “Doggystyle” which was critically acclaimed. The brand was founded in 1991 by Dr Dre, The D.O.C, Suge Knight, and Dick Griffey in 1991. As per the sources, the singer might buy the music rights from the label as well. However, it is not confirmed if it is true or not as there are rumours about this on social media.

Now, discussing the CEO of this brand, Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight Jr aka Suge Knight, he has worked with several popular artists including Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre in the past. Later, Suge Knight was involved in the controversy that surrounded the death of Eazy-E while he was also accused when B.I.G was shot to death in LA. Earlier in 2015, he was charged with murder, a hit-and-run, and an attempt to murder which caused him big trouble. Knight was also involved in a fistfight with Cle Sloan.

Later, he entered a plea to spend 28 years in prison which was included with 22 years on voluntary manslaughter charges and the other for a third strike violation. Currently, Suge Knight is at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in California. Reportedly, on October 23, 2018, he was sent there and will stay there for October 2037. He had claimed earlier that Dr Dre is planning to get him assassinated.
