Munawar Faruqui, a popular stand-up comedian who was behind the bars for more than a month, has gotten the highly-anticipated bail this Friday. He was given interim bail by the Supreme court, the supreme judicial body of India on 5th February 2021. The comedian had appealed for the bail a day before, on Thursday and just another day, he has been granted the interim bail. The 32-years-old was staying in jail since 2nd January this year as he was accused of passing derogatory remarks on the Hindu Gods in one of his live shows in Madhya Pradesh.
The complaint regarding his unacceptable remarks was filed by BJP MLA’s son. Eklavya Singh Gaur alleged the comedian of hurting the very sentiments of the people belonging to the Hindu religion. The statements he used in his show that took place in a cafe in Indore was very disturbing. Munawar passed some really derogatory comments which triggered a huge audience belonging to the same religion.

Several people had shamed Munawar for his remarks. On the FIR (First Information Report) of Eklavya, Munawar was arrested along with four other people. The other people who were taken into custody included Nalin Yadav, Prakhar Vyas, Edwin Anthony, and Priyam Das. They all were arrested on the 2nd of January and since then they all were inside the prison. However, Munawar filed several petitions where he challenged High Court’s decision.
