WATCH: Felicity Ace Sinking Video Viral On Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube: Sadly, there was a bad ending to the entire “4,000 luxury cars burning at the sea” saga: following a fire that raged for days, the ship that was carrying the ultraluxe motor vehicles went under. MOL Ship Management, the Singapore-based firm that owned the 60,000-ton cargo ship Felicity Ace, asserted that the ship sank on Tuesday morning after crews struggled to save it from a fire closely than 2 weeks. While all 22 crew members were saved instantly after the fire began, the 4,000 vehicles on the ship went down with it. Follow More Update On Phoosi.com

MOL wrote in a released statement that “At first reports from the local salvage team state that the vessel had sunk at around 09:00 AM local time having suffered a list to starboard. The last vessel place was around 220 nautical miles off the Azores. The salvage crafts will remain around the sea to keep an eye on the situation.”
Why Were So Many Cars Burning At Sea?
Felicity Ace had set out to Rhode Island from Emden, Germany on 10th February, carrying a shipment of over 4,000 Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Bentley bound for the United States dealers and purchasers. But 6 days after it ready sail, an anonymous fire broke out off the coast of Azores islands of Portugal. It fastly overwhelmed the ship and raged for the next 2 weeks as salvage crews and firefighting equipment struggled to reach and contain it.
The entire 22-person crew was saved by helicopter to the closest island by the Portuguese navy. Much of how the fire began and was fought is presently not clear or not being disclosed. The New York Times reported that, as per the Portuguese navy, the ship “lost stability and sank” in the spite of being asserted “apparently stable, has no fires on the outside or inside, whilst there is a high temperature in the central area, with no smoke in its structure.” on Friday.
As the situation began getting coverage, MOL also would not comment on whether the car shipment contained any electric cars. The lithium-ion batteries within them are broadly known to be more combustible than the ones within gas-powered cars. A probe on what caused the fire has been introduced.
Just How Big Was The Damage
While early statements described rescuing at least some of the cars aboard, the whole 4,000-plus fleet dropped into the water alongside the ship by Tuesday. The cars abroad came from predominantly luxury brands such as Bentley, Audi, Lamborghini, and Porsche, with a total value approximated at over $400 million. The environmental damage also risks being extensive.
