The independent senator has always been critical of wealthy CEOs and billionaires, all the while he hit millionaire status a few years ago.
Oklahoma Republican Markwayne Mullin attacked Bernie Sanders for holding a hearing with former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz on union-busting.
The Republican seems to think that Sanders is a hypocrite for attacking Starbucks Ceo Howard Schultz.
The Oklahoma senator also took a dig at Sanders’ best-selling book during a Senate hearing Wednesday with former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
“I take offense to the chairman pointing out that all CEOs are corrupt because they’re millionaires. It’s bothering to me because, Mr. Chairman, you yourself have been very successful. Rightfully so. Glad you have. You’ve been in office for 28 years and you and your wife have [amassed] a wealth of over $8 million,” Mullin said of Sanders during the hearing.
Mullin’s claim of Sanders having a net worth of $8 million is an inflation of the senator’s reported net worth of $3 million.
“You’ve made more misstatements in a shorter period of time than I have ever heard. Well, if I’m worth $8 million, that’s good news to me,” Sanders said. “I’m not aware of it. That’s a lie.”
Sanders countered Mullin’s statements by saying he’d now hit an all-time high record of misstatements in his analysis.
Republican Mullin gave the credit of his claim to public records. He said he learned about the senator’s whopping net worth through official records.
Sanders did not hesitate in countering the Republicans and said that he should be more careful when reading the news and should not believe in phony right-wing internet stuff.
Sanders has acknowledged that he hit millionaire status a few years ago, and the credit for which goes to his best-selling book.
However, Mullin’s act of tripling the senator’s actual net worth shocked Sanders as much as the rest of us.
Senator Bernie Sanders has always proudly stood against income disparity. In his statement on the day of the hearing, he mentioned that wealth inequality in America had crossed all limits.
The top one percent of the population owns more wealth than the bottom ninety percent of the people.
He specifically targeted CEOs who now earn four hundred times more than their workers and form a significant part of the top one percent of the population.
According to Sanders, CEOs like Howard Schultz, who earn millions, must do some sort of corruption to make that kind of money.
Republican Mullin countered Sander’s claims and said that CEOs belong to the category of the people who create jobs for the country’s general public.
He added that it is totally justified if they earn millions while creating jobs and catering to the public’s demands.
Mullin’s choice of defending a union-busting CEO while he is allegedly swimming in millions of dollars makes him the hypocrite instead of Sanders.
