On Sunday night, February 27, 2022, the 28th edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place. Often shortened as SAG Awards, they were given out at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The South Korean model and actress Ho Yeon Jung won the “Best Actress Award in a Drama Series” for her exceptional performance in the Netflix series “Squid Game” while the lead actor of the same series Jung Jae took home “Best Actor in a Drama Series”. Ho Yeon got emotional as she received the award. She said that she had sat many times watching everyone on the big screen dreaming to become an actor one day.

With this, both Jung Ho-Yeon and Lee Jung-Jae became the first Asian actors to get an individual nomination in Best Male and Female actor in a drama series and also went on to win. Apart from them, CODA also became the first movie with a mostly deaf cast to win the trophy while Troy Kotsur created history after securing a win in the event.
Will Smith grabbed the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading role whereas Jessica Chastain won the same title in the female category. The Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role was won by Troy Kotsur while for the female category, Ariana DeBose was honored. The musical drama CODA cast also won the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture while the movie “No Time To Die” bagged the Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
In the television series, Michael Keaton for “Dopesick” won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor while in the female category, Jennifer Coolidge for “The White Lotus” was awarded.
